THE MISSION BEHIND RLT
Our goal at RLT is to facilitate life-changing experiences that foster personal growth in those who travel with us.
We believe that by traveling to new places combined with meaningful service, stewardship opportunities and intentional programming, RLT participants develop essential tools to grow into strong leaders, positive community members, and deepen their resilience and leadership qualities both on trip AND when they return home. We welcome travelers of all backgrounds and work to build communities on our trip that celebrate each participant.
The RLT experience is a collective experience. The group eats, cooks, meal plans, works together on service projects, and supports one another all while being unplugged from devices. For many of our youth it is their first time flying on their own, away from family and friends, in a new group of peers, rock climbing or scuba diving. The list of “first time” experiences goes on and on. We recognize these new experiences as opportunities for growth, to build one’s self confidence in their abilities, leadership and willingness to try new things. Just as the Dalai Lama said,
“With realization of one’s own potential and self confidence in one’s ability one can build a better world.”
Bringing the skills of leadership, stewardship, self-confidence and including others back home is very important to us. At RLT, we provide activities such as group journaling, group discussions, solitude sits and letters to self, to name a few, that allow our travelers to step back, develop their critical thinking skills and reflect on their experiences and how they relate to their lives back home. It is our hope that a traveler’s experience on an RLT trip ignites a passion within them or helps grow their passions even more whether it be in service, adventure, community or travel.
Over the course of the next few months we are going to dive deeper into each one of our values at RLT to share the “why” behind why we believe each is important and how those values are reflected in the experience on an RLT trip.
