Educational Teen Travel - We have got you covered!

Our team at The Road Less Traveled (RLT) has been working with young people on outdoor education programs for more than three decades now. And to this day, we continue to put together seasonal trips that show it isn’t only the classroom where middle and high schoolers can learn effectively about the world around them.

By joining an RLT trip, students are left informed, inspired, and with first hand experiences they can draw upon. Learning in a classroom provides a certain level of understanding, but being face to face with elephants in Thailand, seeing the recession of a glacier in Alaska, or collecting important environmental data in Italy, provides experiential education for students in a way a classroom can not.

We often hear how taking part in multiple travel programs has helped with students' academic performance. From having first hand experience to write papers on, to having a mature and global perspective on topical issues, educational travel programs can play a key role.

They can also play a very important role in the college admissions process, with many top schools and universities looking for not just high level academic performance, but a well rounded student with a variety of meaningful extra curricular experiences as well.

Educational aspects are deeply embedded into our summer programs

For some teens, it is clear that classroom based education is not the way to inspire them or ignite their passions. Indeed, for some young people, only ever trying to learn in a traditional school setting can leave them feeling burnt out or unmotivated.

By contrast, time spent on outdoor education programs – such as ours here at RLT – often leave teens feeling invigorated by the wild spaces we visit and motivated to work in the areas they are interested in, like environmental industries, marine conservation, sustainability, or animal care.

Our outdoor education programs have an excellent track record of broadening the horizons of young people, empowering them to realize there is so much more to the world than their own town or city. Who knows – your child’s time with us might even cause them to rethink their future academic or career plans, thanks to the connection the trip gives them to a new or rediscovered passion or interest.

By blending educational travel, authentic learning experiences, and academic enrichment, our team at RLT formulates meaningful summer travel programs that help our young travelers engage with our world in entirely new ways.

What could your child be doing with us on our trips? In two words: a lot!

To find out more about the variety of learning experiences that your child could immerse themselves in when they join one of our outdoor education programs, take a look through our available middle and high school trips for the summer of 2024.

Perhaps your child will be spending this summer getting up close to the temples and heritage of Bali, marveling at the glorious Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska, or helping with service work monitoring dolphins in Italy? These are just a few examples of what learning can look like when teens take on the challenge of an RLT summer travel program.

Do you see a program in our selection that you feel could be “just right” for your teen? If so, please don’t hesitate to schedule a call with an RLT director for more details.
