OVERVIEW OF OUR 2021 DOMESTIC TRIPS

Our summer 2021 domestic trips offer a varied range of transformative experiences combining service work, education, adventure and travel. From learning about social justice in Tennessee, to refining scuba diving skills in Florida, to supporting animal rehabilitation in Wyoming, we are excited for our young travelers to get stuck into our summer 2021 programs!

Our experience running trips in summer 2020 and maintaining a “trip bubble” has allowed us to review our existing programs, with first hand knowledge and experience to draw upon. This consequently allowed us to create our 2021 trip itineraries knowing the best practices for maintaining our ”trip bubbles”. This will allow us to keep staff and participants safe, minimize the exposure to COVID and still provide life-changing student travel experiences. You can find out more about all our domestic programs below, or click on the trip names for further details.

Hawaii: Aloha Aina

“Aloha ‘Aina,” named from the Hawaiian phrase “love of the land,” takes us on a 14-day teen environmental community service trip where we explore the beauty and culture on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Enjoy snorkeling, surfing, hiking, dolphin watching and help out at a grassroots land trust organization focusing on agriculture, ocean conservation, and wind energy. (Grades 8-12)

Tennessee: Smoky Mountain Sojourn

New for 2021! With a focus on black history, anti-racism, and social entrepreneurship, join us as we explore Tennessee while learning about its rich and challenging past. Hike with llamas, discover the Smoky Mountain National Park, white water raft the upper Pigeon River and bike along the Kingsport Greenbelt Trail. We’ll facilitate nightly discussions on complex issues including anti-racism and social justice and support each other as we become more confident to have these conversations with our communities at home. (Grades 8-12)

Colorado: Call of the Wild

Our 14-day wolf conservation program takes place in the mountains of Colorado. We partner with a wolf sanctuary on important conservation efforts, including activities that directly affect and improve the lives of the 30 resident wolves. Also enjoy white water rafting, climbing and hiking as we explore the mountains of Colorado. (Grades 8-12)

Wyoming: Tails of Kindness

Live and work at an animal sanctuary with a dedicated mission to rehabilitate laboratory animals and find them their forever homes. Interact with pigs, cats, dogs, and horses, try whitewater rafting and explore the Rocky Mountains National Park. If you love animals, this is the trip for you! (Grades 6-8)

Florida: Conservation is Key

Learn to scuba dive, and then put those skills to work while volunteering to protect and enhance marine habitats and coral reefs with the Coral Restoration Foundation. Above water, explore the Everglades National Park by sea kayak, visit the Wild Bird Center at Key Largo and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Beginner and advanced diving courses available. (Grades 8-12)

Michigan: Seeds of Change

Seeds of Change takes us on a journey from seed to plate while also discovering the dunes, beaches, and coastline of southwest Michigan. We’ll explore orchards, farms, and markets, and learn how our “chow” makes its way from field to market. (Grades 6-8)
